At the Bicycle Legacy Museum, a 501(c)(3), our mission is to preserve and celebrate the rich history and cultural significance of bicycles. Through the art, technology, and stories of these two-wheeled marvels, we aim to inspire, educate, and connect people of all ages, fostering a deeper appreciation for the role of bicycles in shaping our world.

The Bicycle Legacy Museum is currently in the process of getting everything in gear for its highly-anticipated traveling museum exhibit. Scheduled for 2024, our tour will take us to various cities, local bike shops, state fairs, and a wide array of exciting events.

1937 Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works

Iver Johnson bicycles stand as iconic representations of early American cycling. During the bicycle craze of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the company flourished in both bicycle manufacturing and sales. Today, vintage bicycle collectors regard Iver Johnson bikes as "classics," admiring their exceptional aesthetics.

Even when brand new, Iver Johnson bicycles were celebrated for their graceful appearance, solid construction, and high-performance engineering. Notably, Iver Johnson played a pivotal role in sponsoring the career of bicycle racing champion Major Taylor, commencing in 1900. The truss-bridge frame, featuring a curved tube under the top tube to reinforce the frame for navigating the rough roads of the early 20th century, remains one of their most recognized models.

The production of bicycles ceased in 1940 as the company shifted its focus towards arms production in anticipation of World War II. Today, Iver Johnson bicycles are highly coveted by collectors, considered relatively rare in comparison to products from other major manufacturers of that era. An Iver Johnson bicycle is proudly displayed at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in the "America on the Move" exhibit.

1938 Elgin 26" Skip Tooth Skirt Tank

The Elgin Bicycle Company was founded in 1863 and was one of the largest and most respected bicycle manufacturers in the United States. They produced a wide variety of bicycles, including road bikes, track bikes, and tandem bikes. The Skip Tooth Skirt Tank Bicycle was one of their most popular models and was produced from the early 1930s to the late 1940s.

This rare and beautiful 1938 Elgin 26" Skip Tooth Skirt Tank Bicycle is a true gem of the cycling world and is a wonderful example of the craftsmanship of the time.

A Set of 1957 Schwinn Bicycles

The 1957 Schwinn bicycle, a true vintage gem, epitomizes the classic American bicycle design and craftsmanship of its era. Manufactured by the renowned Schwinn Bicycle Company, this two-wheeler carries a rich history, nostalgic charm, and a time-tested legacy that continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The 1957 Schwinn bicycle is a representation of an era when bicycles were not just modes of transportation but also symbols of freedom and exploration. As a post-war creation, it was part of a period when people embraced the open road and the outdoors, making it a cherished relic of the mid-20th century.

Owning a 1957 Schwinn bicycle is not just a possession; it's a connection to a bygone era of cycling and a reminder of the enduring appeal of vintage American craftsmanship.

1909 Elgin Cycle Company

(as seen on Season 16 of Pawn Stars)

From the golden age of bicycling this is a completely restored, original wooden rimmed Elgin bicycle, believed to be from 1909. Found at a yard sale this model of bike with the original wooden rims is extremely rare! Wooden rims were originally used over metal as they offered a better ride due to their elasticity. However, they fell out of favor in the 1950's with the introduction of rim brakes, as when over-stressed it would cause the rim to splinter with at times catastrophic results.

The bike has been beautifully restored by “Pawn Stars” regular and “American Restoration” star Rick Dale of Rick's Restorations. Refinished and repainted this bike is fully operational! A truly marvelous antique bicycle, this is surely a stunning addition to our collection!

Manufactured by Elgin Cycle Company a subsidiary of the Illinois Watch Case Co., and the Elgin Sewing Machine & Bicycle Co. The Elgin Cycle Co. offered many styles of bikes, including the Elgin King, Queen, Prince and Princess bikes for an affordable $40. The Elgin Sewing Machine & Bicycle Co. only manufactured one bike model called the Elgin Timer. Although these companies stopped producing bikes around 1910, the Elgin name carried on through Sears, Roebuck and Co., who started selling Elgin brand bikes, not necessarily made in Elgin, IL.

Bike measures 68"L x 36"H (to seat) and 39"(to handlebars).

Highlighted in the 16th season of the renowned television series "Pawn Stars," this piece came to our museum complete with a "Pawn Stars" Certificate of Authenticity (COA) bearing the signature of Rick Harrison, adding a touch of authenticity to its history.

1950's Swiss Military Surplus Army Bicycle

The classic Swiss Army Bicycle, as used by the Swiss Bicycle Infantry. Officially called Ordonnanzfahrrad Modell 05, it was introduced in 1905 and in continuous use until replaced by the MO-93. It was built between 1905 and 1989 by Schwalbe, Cäsar, Cosmos and Condor. Swiss bicycle Infantry were phased out in 2001. The most recognisable feature of most Swiss Army Bicycles is the large carry case fitted into the frame. It is accessed from the right-hand side, whilst having a separate document and map compartment on the left-hand side. They were painted all-over basic black, usually semi-matt, although some later models were painted olive drab. Fittings and accessories were variously black, brown or olive drab in colour. The basic model saw many variations as it was adapted for use in many different fields of warfare. Some were stripped down of all non-essential fittings for use as a messenger transport.

Schwinn Sting-Ray Orange Krate

Iconic Vintage Replica

Blast off with a classic Schwinn Krate, featuring the iconic Sting-Ray style frame and springer fork. It's the classic icon of childhood fun.
Vintage details include high-rise ape handlebars, banana seat, and sissy bar for that unmistakable 1970's Krate look that never goes out of style.

In 1968 Schwinn introduced what is likely the most memorable edition of the Sting-Ray line to date: the Schwinn Krate. The Krate was to the Sting-Ray what dragsters were to automobiles. In fact, the Krate name was borrowed from a popular California dragster in 1968. What really made the bike stand out was the unique stick shift mounted on the top tube, right between the seat and the handlebars.

These bikes had features that weren't just advanced for the Sting-Ray collection, but for bicycles in general. Such features included front and rear suspension via articulating forks in front, and a spring-loaded sissy bar for a "floating seat" out back. A drum-style front brake was located up front, while a mechanical disc brake was set up in the rear.

There was plenty of pizzazz too, as the bikes were dressed up with a bright front fork, ape hanger bars and chrome fenders on both ends. And with a 20-inch slick back tire and a 16-inch front wheel, they truly looked like a bicycle version of chopper motorcycles.

Just like the other Sting-Rays, the Krate series came in an assortment of sweet colors. Originally in 1968, the Krates consisted of three models: The Apple Krate (red); the Lemon Peeler (yellow); and the Orange Krate.

Across 1969 and 1970, green and white Krate versions made their way onto the scene. The white Krate incorporated the revolutionary Schwinn Sting-Ray design with gears, full-floating ride, and features that were "sure to thrill your imagination." Finally, in 1971, Schwinn introduced the Grey Ghost.

2023 SE Bikes - Mike Buff Fast Ripper 29"

A Mike Buff Fast Ripper? You bet! Buff loves to ride all kinds of SE bikes and the 29” Fast Ripper is one of his favorites. It was only a matter of time until he put his personal spin on the Fast Ripper. Buff is a BMX pioneer who helped introduce freestyle BMX to the world.

As one of the original godfathers of freestyle, he rode a PK Ripper in the early 1980s when he was a member of the legendary BMX Action Trick Team. The Mike Buff Fast Ripper has a similar colorway and style as the legendary PK Ripper that he made famous.

This Fast Ripper comes equipped with a SRAM GX 1x10 drivetrain, Shimano Deore 10-speed cassette, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, and Freedom ThickSlick tires. This thing is FAST!

HARO SHREDDER PRO DLX BMX BIKE 2023

The Shredder Pro 20 adopts Hi-ten steel frame construction with slightly more aggressive freestyle geometry than that found on the Shredder 20. 25/9 gearing, a cassette rear hub with 14mm axle and alloy 990 style brakes all contribute to giving the Shredder Pro 20 more freestyle characteristics.

Based from all the same spec and features as the Shredder Pro 20, the DLX kicks it up a few notches by adding four pegs, front brakes and a gyro making this platform more adaptable to a wider range of riding disciplines.

Haro Bikes Corporation, the brainchild of American BMX and Mountain bicycle pioneer Bob Haro, found its inception in 1978. Pioneering the realm of Freestyle BMX, Haro's first foray into bike production involved a partnership with Torker, who manufactured the initial Haro bikes. However, in 1982, Bob Haro boldly introduced his own line of racing bicycles, severing ties with Torker and Max.

Skateboarders are different. They have this finely tuned ability to find freedom in risk. They also help define culture – then, now, and new.
